Edmonton has a poet laureate named Cadence Weapon. He is cool.
So Edmonton is cool.
…then might I suggest you head to Wunderbar just before last call and see “Touch it and You Will Say Ow!” (along with Plainclothes and sKin). We’ve seen them on a couple of occasions and I promise you, they’re worth staying out late for.
Dead Ghosts. Think of the best rock you hear out of neighbourhood garages. Then explode it and make it awesome.
The Joe rocking, attacking, and destroying the microphone. Old Ugly showcase + Cadence Weapon tonight = Edmonton’s hip-hop scene is going to tear the city apart. In a good way.
She’s folky, fun, and fiery. Music is full of people with guitars singing songs that mean something, but Manuela’s got a voice you want to listen to. I mean that in terms of her actual voice and the words she’s singing.
Her show at the Savoy had some technical glitches but she can sing without a microphone and a little feedback can’t hurt a good song.
You don’t have to wait long to see her. She’s playing Sunday night at On The Rocks.
(Again, sorry for having terrible mic presence.)
No escaping the music!
We were at Funky Pickle and Gregg ended up buying one of Carrie Hryniw’s CDs instead of pizza.
Raptors aren’t scary, they just want to rock. This rock, funk, alternative band (they add zouk to that description) is one you want to see live if you want to have your face melted by great music. They had people moving and dancing at the Pawn Shop, and I was glad to catch this show since it’s one band I had previously heard and wanted to see live. They didn’t let me down.
They remind me of the Black Keys and the Dudes, with mixes of southern rock and radio rock. Ah, forget it, I’m not going to explain this right. Just see Raptors.
